Historic Places Around Riverside To Visit!

Riverside Metropolitan Museum

The Riverside Metropolitan Museum is a museum located in downtown Riverside, California. The museum was established in 1924 and focuses on the history, culture, and nature of Riverside County. The museum maintains three main collections: historical photographs as well as documents of the early years of Riverside County, a collection of Native American artifacts from tribes native to the area, and a collection that focuses on the flora and fauna of the area.

Other permanent exhibits include natural history (featuring fossils, minerals, seashells, petrified wood, and animal mounts), an exhibit about the city’s Japanese community during World War II, an exhibit about the history of Southern California Route 91, an art gallery featuring works from local artists, a temporary exhibit gallery that is typically occupied by traveling exhibits from other museums throughout Southern California, and an archive containing thousands of documents related to the history of the city.

California Citrus State Historic Park

California Citrus State Historic Park is an excellent destination to visit for anyone interested in California history, agriculture, or just looking for a relaxing place to walk around. This 250-acre park also tells the story of California’s citrus industry and has gorgeous orchards of oranges, lemons, grapefruit, and other citrus fruits.

The park’s visitor center offers a great introduction to the state’s citrus history with interpretive displays and exhibits, as well as guided tours of the groves on the weekends. If you’re lucky, you can even sample some fresh fruit back at the Sunkist Center.

Mission Inn

The historic Mission Inn has been serving the city of Riverside for more than 100 years. The Historic Mission inn was founded in the early 1900s and has since expanded to encompass several structures, including a historic inn, a museum, as well as a huge outside garden. The central building is an architectural masterpiece, complete with Spanish-style architecture that makes it one of the most picturesque landmarks in the city.

The Mission Inn Museum is available to the public and offers daily 75-minute tours of the home led by docents. The Inn offers guests individually designed rooms that have been restored to retain their historic charm. Stays also include access to areas of the Mission Inn not visible on public tours, such as the courtyard and grounds, as well as the Inn’s famous ballroom.

Van Buren Drive-In Theater

The Van Buren Drive-In is a historic landmark of Riverside, California. It’s the last operating drive-in theater in the country and has been a focal point of the community since it opened in 1964. The city has worked hard to preserve its classic charm while adding modern amenities like digital projection and surround sound systems. It seldom fails to delight locals, tourists, and movie lovers from around the nation who make the pilgrimage every year for an authentic drive-in experience.

Mount Rubidoux Park

One of the greatest and most recognized landmarks in Riverside is the Mount Rubidoux cross. This historic landmark is a place of peace and tranquility for many locals and tourists alike. With its impressive cross and history, it’s not hard to see why people flock to this site year after year.

Even though Mount Rubidoux attracts many visitors, Mount Rubidoux Park itself is a striking landmark for all of Riverside. The park contains many trails and benches, as well as a playground area and a separate dog park. It also offers several picnic areas with tables and barbecue grills. One of the most popular activities at Mount Rubidoux Park is hiking, owing to its gorgeous views of the city and the Inland Empire.
